Congratulations to our 2007 "If I Could" Scholarship Recipients

EDWARD ALVAREZ
Scholarship: Bradley University

Edward is a Junior attending North Chicago Community High School. He is taking Honors and AP level English, Math and Science. He has been on the honor roll the duration of his three years in high school, carries a GPA of 3.6, and ranks 17th in his class.

He is a member of Student Council, Spanish Club, The Heritage Club, and The National Honor Society. He also volunteers as a teacher's assistant. He enjoys his productive work on the speech team and will be attending Bradley University's Summer Forensics Oratory/Drama Program.


SEMEKA CUNNINGHAM
Scholarship: Bradley University, Peoria IL

Semeka is a Junior attending North Chicago Community High School. She is a productive member of the North Chicago Community Speech Team, and this year she serves as co-captain.

Semeka has received various awards and honors throughout her high school career. She is consistently on the honor roll.

Semeka's passion is poetry and she will be attending the Bradley University's Summer Forensics Poetry Program.


VICTORIA RIVERA
Scholarship: Parson's School - New York

Victoria is a 16-year-old Junior attending North Chicago High School. She has received A's and B's throughout her high school career, has been taking Honors and AP level classes, and has a current GPA of 3.4 which places her on the honor roll.

She has an interest in art, fashion, writing and music, and is currently on the North Chicago's softball team.

Victoria will be attending Parsons The New School for Design in New York City this summer and will be taking drawing and design.


MARTRELL REED
Scholarship: Cap & Gown Rental for Graduation

Martrell is a Senior attending North Chicago Community High School. He is a participant in the NCCHS Workforce Investment Act program, receiving career readiness and training. He is currently completing an internship at the North Chicago Public Library.

Martrell's hobbies include basketball and football. He attends church twice a week.

He is goal oriented, talented artistically and is considering a career in the U.S. Army.

Missy's Friends will be disbursing money to Martrell to cover the cost of a Correspondence Course, which is needed in order for him to graduate. We are also paying for the rental of his cap and gown for the graduation ceremony.


ROBERTO SAMUEL GARCIA
Scholarship: Bradley University & Pepperdine University

Roberto is a 16-year-old Junior attending North Chicago Community High School. He has been a member of the Student Council, National Honor Society, Drama Club, Math Club, Chess Club, Heritage Club, Academic Bowl, Latino Advisory Board and Ladies and Gentlemen Dance Troupe. He has acted in three school plays and is currently Editor-in-Chief of the school newspaper.

Dancing, working with animals and helping others are very important to Roberto!

Roberto's favorite extracurricular activity is the Speech Team. Roberto's passion is comedy and he will be attending the Bradley University's Summer Forensics Original Comedy and Oratory Program.


STEPHANIE FORTSON
Scholarship: Operation Enterprise - UCLA

Stephanie is a 16-year-old Junior attending North Chicago Community High School. She is student body president and junior class representative. She helped draft the student council constitution. Stephanie is a member of the NCHS's band and choir as well as the academic bowl team and heritage club. She is in her second year as an Academy of Finance student learning about the world of banking and accounting. As a member of the National Honor Society she is further challenged by planning to study International Finance and Financial Planning her Senior year.

Her hobbies include playing tennis on the North Chicago High School Warhawk Tennis Team. Stephanie also plays the saxophone and enjoys tutoring. Stephanie's dream is to become a CEO of a Fortune 500 Company.

Missy's Friends will be sending Stephanie to the Milwaukee School of Engineering and Operation Enterprise at UCLA in California.
