Welcome!Missy Gilden Minorini, daughter, wife, mother and dear friend passed from this world on January 5, 2006. Those of us who knew and loved Missy wanted to honor her memory by working for a group that was dear to her heart, the students at North Chicago High School. The response to our fund raising efforts has been truly inspiring. To date, our organization has raised over $100,000. This money has been used to further the education and enhance the lives of numerous young people in North Chicago.Last summer Missy’s Friends awarded scholarships to 12 teenagers to attend summer programs at UCLA, Bradley University, Grambling State University, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Parson’s School of Design. One student attended Barber school and another completed a summer school program so she could have enough credits to graduate with her class. We are currently evaluating applicants for this summer’s scholarship awards. So far, we are sending one student to a summer program in Italy and another to a Cheer Camp in Hawaii. We have also purchased items to improve the classrooms, art studios and recreation programs at North Chicago High School. Missy’s Friends has been overwhelmed by the support and generosity from the community who have made these gifts to North Chicago High School Students possible. We know Missy’s spirit lives on in these gifts. The Board has made the decision that 2008 will be our final year of operation. We will not be having a golf outing in September. Our plans are to continue to disperse all money raised in scholarships and for items to enrich the students’ education. Thank you all for your donations, volunteer efforts, and support of this tribute to our much loved Missy Minorini.
